Matt started his horticultural life in the Bay Area more than 13 years ago. He has completed extensive coursework in horticultural science, landscape design, arboriculture, landscape maintenance, sustainable design, and integrative pest management. Matt also spent a year studying landscape architecture at Merritt College in Oakland, California.
Matt has over a decade of experience and has been a part of a wide array of horticultural projects. Matt spent two years as grounds keeper for Diablo Valley College. He then spent 9 years managing a retail nursery in Lafayette, California and working under Camellia propagation and hybridization master Garth Jacober. He also worked independently as a garden and indoor plant consultant and landscape designer with a variety of clients including the 5-star Lafayette Park Hotel & Spa, large commercial properties, private homes, outdoor patios, and retirement communities. Matt takes pride in offering great service and expertise with a cheerful demeanor.
After relocating to Portland in 2018 and recovering from major back surgery, Matt is now focused on sharing his passion and experience with new clients and member of his community. Matt enjoys and excels at breaking down complex aspects of landscaping and converting these ideas into a simple and easy-to-follow brief. Matt's ideas and designs are inspired by visits to botanical gardens all over the world and by Mother Nature herself.
When Matt is not working, he can be found hiking with his partner, Kendra, and their chocolate lab, Riley, or tending to his own overflowing vegetable garden. He also enjoys cooking, film photography, and birding.
